Activities

teen coop Activities are a fun way of understanding concepts and getting involved. In this section you will find all the activities listed throughout the website in one convenient location. Performing these activities with others will embody the spirit of co-operation.

The activities will correspond to each section, though some of the activities may overlap in area. Doing these activities with your peers will re-inforce your learning and immerse you into the world of co-operatives. Have fun!

Origin and History

  • Find evidence in my community of the historical presence of past co-operatives through resources such as the local historical society, friends and family, the school or local library and the internet
  • Share learning with school/parents/community using a range of different media and deciding on the most appropriate content for the audience
  • Make a list of past co-operatives my surrounding area and in Scotland.
  • Make an informative poster portraying the history of the co-op with drawings/animations of the original co-operators

  • Share learning with school/parents/community using a range of different media and deciding on the most appropriate content for the audience

  • Have a refresher geography session on the countries mentioned, and see what is may be like to go to school there Vs my school at home.
  • With my class, make a list of current co-operatives in my surrounding area and in Scotland
  • As a group, design a Survey Questionnaire aimed at my local community to see what they think need improving in my local area. Can these issues be solved co-operatively?

  • Visit the local council and ask them what they main issues for my area are.

  • With the class, pick a developing nation and see in which way a co-operative may be able to meet their need.

Co-operatives in the 21st Century

  • Arrange to go and visit a co-operative with my class/friends/teachers/family and write a report on how it is:

  • a) helping the community
    b) acting in the interests of its members
    c) is it successful?

  • Find out about their future plans. How do they see the role of co-ops in the 21st century?
  • Do your community co-operatives have a service that may be provided to school in any way e.g. fair trade products provision etc?
  • See if you can partner with your local community co-ops to create and co-operative awareness event.
