Inspiring co-operative enterprise through education

Alecop - Program details

How to get involved

Our program of activities in the Alecop project extend to three key areas:

  • Working with students in higher and further education to obtain sustainable employment opportunities through the creation of a co-operative enterprise. This activity is the main focus of the project and aims to enable students to support themselves financially while at university/college.

  • Supporting students who are pursuing new venture creation projects during the course of their study. We can provide help in the form of a free co-operative entrepreneurship toolkit and connect student enterprises with relevant development bodies in the co-op sector.

  • Assisiting in the formation and operation of student co-operatives being run on campus. There is tremendous scope for students to adopt co-operative models in order to solve their pressing needs, in particular those relating to food, transport, housing and credit. See our case studies section for details of student co-operatives operating in higher education institutions.

Whether you are an HE or FE institution looking for an innovative model to support student/graduate employment, an academic seeking to incorproate alternative models of enterprise into entrepreneurship projects, or a group of students with a need that is not being met by existing services, the Alecop project can provide solutions. See the case studies section for examples of how the co-operative model of enterprise has been embedded in higher and further education.
